    This is for a front tilting hood conversion for the 1958-1961 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprites MK 1.
    ALL BRACKETS ARE SHIPPED BARE STEEL & UNPAINTED SO YOU CAN PAINT THEM THE COLOR YOU DESIRE. ALL HARDWARE IS PLATED.
    Using these brackets and hardware you can change the hood from a rear tilting setup with very limited engine bay access to a front tilting setup with much better access. This will ease access and convenience of the front hinge bonnet and allow for easy engine bay access for all MK1 Sprites with steel bonnets. It incorporates a sliding stop so no retaining cables are needed.
    Very well engineered and road-tested on many cars for years. I have used this set-up on several Austin Healey Bugeyes without any problems over the past few years. This is for the brackets, detailed instructions, all locking nuts, bolts and washers that are needed. This kit requires drilling and trimming of a small frame spacer. You do not need to drill a new hole in the radiator support if you want to use a cable or chain hood stop instead of the sliding bracket stop. This method would not require any new holes to be drilled in your vehicle. Most people remove the original hinges and the hood will then rest on the rear hood gasket.

    The installation is not difficult but does require use of common hand tools. These steel brackets are cut on a CNC Plasma table and are shipped unpainted. The holes have been cut slightly larger than the bolt size so this kit will work without modification on these older cars with varying dimensions and tolerances. When you convert to the front tilting hood, you will need a hood hold-down.
    Make sure that the distance from the hole centers on your hood are 1-5/8″ (1.625″) for this kit to work without modification as I have seen a few rare Sprites where the distance is greater (see pictures below which shows the different hood). This might require modification to the kit to make it work on the hoods with holes spaced farther apart but this
    kit WILL WORK if your hood has that spacing.
    It is a simple fix, it will be very tough to
    drill out the hood kit brackets since they are plasma cut. You can overdrill
    the hood holes very slightly to get the 1/8″ needed on each side. The kit
    is slightly oversized anyway so test the brackets as you may not need to drill
    the full 1/4″ total difference.
