  • A parody of the classic ‘Dogs Playing Poker’. The canines of this 19″ x 27″ poster are enjoying the archetypical roleplaying game.
In 1903, the Brown & Bigelow Cigar Company commissioned sixteen oil paintings from artist Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. 9 of them depicted dogs playing poker. One such example is “A Bold Bluff”.
Cassius’ art became derisively well known in the United States as examples of mainly working-class taste in home decoration, synonymous with kitsch and tackiness. They also became incredibly popular and famous, and stand as icons of Americana. Having long since entered the public domain, they have the distinction of being some of the most printed, most copied, and most recognizable art ever made.
I created this image, “Dogs Playing D&D”, as a parody of “A Bold Bluff”, because I wanted to hang something like this in my Man Cave. However, as an avid fan of role-playing games, the poker version just didn’t cut it.
Upon displaying the finished work to friends, I was immediately beset by requests for prints.
This poster is 19″ x 27″, printed in gorgeous full color on heavy gloss paper. It will be shipped in a sturdy poster tube by USPS.
I can usually combine shipping if you order more than one poster. If you would like to do this, purchase all of the items you want, but do not pay. Use the Request Invoice option, and I will send a revised total.
I also have several other versions of this poster available – 1st edition D&D, 2nd edition D&D, 3rd edition D&D, 5th edition D&D, Pathfinder, and Call of Cthulhu. I also have copies autographed by the artist.
